Irelands toughest road marathon! Cyclists have long known the allure of the ‘Lap of the Gap’ circuit taking you from the village of Laragh to the highland pass of Sallygap and back past Lough Tay (the ‘Guinness Lake’). A scenic route with plenty of ups and plenty of downs. From quiet country back lanes to the barren and dramatic heather landscapes once you pass the Glenmacnass Waterfall. Both our marathon and half-marathon adds a ‘tail’ to the traditional Lap of the Gap to allow you to start in the monastic village of Glendalough – one of Ireland’s most popular tourist destinations. There is only one mountain marathon in the world where you can run nearly through a whole country: The LGT Alpin Marathon in the Principality of Liechtenstein. The Aabenraa Mountain Marathon starts in the city’s beautiful center, more specifically at the big square Storetorv, from which the new exciting routes go. The routes are a combination of the hills in the beautiful countryside around Aabenraa as well as through the city center, with the pedestrian zone and the old town. Storetorv is the center of the running party and this year is no exception. In the center there will be big screens, party atmosphere and a long red-carpet run into the finish area, so you can be helped all the way to the finish! Preparations for the annual Königsschlösser Romantic Marathon are well underway and the first registrations have already fluttered through our letterbox. The Königsschlösser Romatic Marathon hosted in the East Allgäu – one of the most attractive and prettiest regions in the whole of Bavaria – is a unique run. This was confirmed once again by the run staged this year: over 800 runners went under starter’s orders in Füssen on a day with the most perfect weather conditions. Some three kilometres later, with the town left far behind, the runners could look forward to the rest of the run through the most beautiful countryside imaginable: across the Hopfer forest, round Lake Hopfensee, across the floodplain of the river Lech along the banks of Lake Forggensee, across lush green meadows and past the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, through the Schwansee woodlands and on to the final sprint for the town again. Experience the stunning views of the Swedish countryside while running through the forests and along the lake shores. Knarvikmila is Norway’s most magnificent running event. This year, KnarvikMila takes place at the beginning September. KnarvikMila is more than one race and more than a single distance. It is also more than a sports event. This is a week filled with cultural and sports events. See our programme for more information and take a look at our different distances. KnarvikMila was founded in 1982 by initiator and enthusiast Helge Brekke and is arranged by the athletic association FIL-AKS77. Since 1982, thousands of feet have run along roads and tracks in Knarvik for a week every autumn. In 2022, 500 volunteers worked to create a memorable event for 6000 participants. Without a group of volunteers extending far beyond the members of the athletic association it would be impossible to pull off the event that KnarvikMila has become: a whole week of activities including a conference, concerts and trade fair.
