Celebrate the 42nd edition of the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon and run for the good times on Saturday 4 – Sunday 5 July 2020 on the beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. The world class international marathon will attract 28,000 participants of all ages and abilities from over 50 countries across eight races including the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Gold Coast Airport Fun Run, Garmin 4km Junior Dash and Garmin 2km Junior Dash. The Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label Road Race, is the pinnacle of road running events in Australia and during its 41-year history has distinguished itself as one of the most prestigious marathons in the world. Its famous flat, fast and scenic course located alongside the city’s renowned surf beaches and stunning broadwater plus ideal winter running conditions featuring low humidity, little wind and mild temperatures result in 60% of participants achieving personal best times each year. Upwards of 150,000 spectators plus four radio broadcasts along the course rally runners as they wind their way through Buckhead into midtown Atlanta in this 49-year-old Independence Day race, the largest 10K in the world. A recurring cheerleader is Dean Sam Candler, who sprinkles runners with “holy water” outside the Cathedral of St. Philip around mile two. The support is especially needed about half a mile later as runners tackle Cardiac Hill, which rises more than 120 feet in approximately 0.75 miles. An annual event that happens every 4th of July in Seward, Alaska. It is known for quite a strenuous and challenging course leading to the top of Mount Marathon, which is 2,974 feet (906 m) high. The start line is located in downtown, at 4th and Adams. The race finishes almost at the same spot, just a block south. The total distance of the race is only about 3.1 mi (5 km), but it is not going to be easy as the trail is muddy and rocky. Runners have suffered numerous injuries here before. All participants are required to be in good shape and have a mountain running experience. Helmets, gloves, and other protective gear are recommended. Leading racers usually get to Mount Marathon top in about 40 minutes, and reach the finish from there in 15 minutes. The race course includes steep inclines, slippery loose rock, and shale. Racers must be ready to get themselves down the mountain even if injured since assistance is not guaranteed. The total elevation gain of the course is 3,022 feet (921 m). Celebrating its 44th anniversary in 2020, this hilly course is billed as a big city event held in a small town. The 15K is the premier event of the weekend, attracting national caliber elites. Along with panoramic views signature to upstate New York, the Boilermaker is known for its spectator support and challenging inclines. You’ll be in elite company as you wind through downtown Utica. It’s Queensland’s most scenic and longest running fun run. The Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run takes place around the stunning Redcliffe Peninsula, offering four great events to entrants each year. The Challenge is an off road and self navigated challenge through the picturesque Hertfordshire countryside around Stevenage. This is the 26th year of this event. This fast, point-to-point seaside 10K—founded by Joan Benoit Samuelson, winner of the first-ever women’s marathon in the 1984 Olympics—kicks off near Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth. The winding route takes runners along tree-lined roads with panoramic Atlantic Ocean vistas. A fire truck aerial ladder arch displaying the American flag marks the midway point, and a hairpin turn around mile six leads runners up a steep path before wrapping around into a homestretch that includes views of Casco Bay and the Portland Head Light, the nation’s first commissioned lighthouse and also the most photographed lighthouse in America. The Isle of Man Marathon is a competitor friendly event taking place on the picturesque course in the North of the Island, nestled between England and Ireland. The Half Marathon has been voted in ‘Runners’ World’ as one of the top ten races in the United Kingdom. Stunning Scenery and an undulating route await those who enter. The race, as in previous years, will be run over the Manx Northern course, starting and finishing in Ramsey. Start in Ramsey. Head along Mooragh Promenade past the site of the former Grand Island hotel and on to Bride. From there to Andreas and St Judes before turning back towards Ramsey.
